Former coach: Kupmenas played as a central defender in the youth training, and he can also adapt to three defenders at Juventus

Recently, Janssen, Kupmenas' former coach at Alkmaar, accepted an interview with the All Market Network and talked about Kupmenas serving as a defender under Spalletti. He also used Kupmenas as a defender back then.

He said: "Kupmenas was originally a midfielder, but he also played the central defender position in the youth training period and will move forward. As the head coach of Alkmaar, I also used him to play a similar role in some games, although he was used in a four-back formation."

So, does Spalletti's decision surprise you?

"He will surprise you, but he will never surprise me. Kupmenas is a very versatile player and this move is not a surprise to me. Juventus need more quality, structure and stability to organize the attack from the back, and this is what Kupmenas can bring to Luciano Spalletti's team."

For Janssen, this is not a risk.

"At Alkmaar, the phase of building the offense is coordinated by three people, so I think he can adapt well to the three-centre-back system. It will be interesting to see how he operates without the ball in the future, but Spalletti knows Kupmenas very well. He wanted to sign him as early as Naples and gave him trust immediately."

"I have always said that he is a very good player. The team has changed a lot since he came to Juventus, but if Spalletti can bring back an atmosphere of balance and stability, I believe that Kupmenas can return to his best form and help the team grow."
