Former Manchester United youth coach: Garnacho is not bad but just immature; Amad s talent is obvious

Neil Wood is 42 years old. He spent 20 years with the Red Devils. Now Wood is working for the national teams of Trinidad and Tobago and the national teams of Canadian women's football. During his tenure as Manchester United U23 coach, Wood helped Amade, Garnacho, Ilanga and other players grow.

Wood also worked as head coach for the Salford City team owned by many Red Devils' "Class 92" celebrities, but he was fired by his old teammates after only one and a half years of coaching. Recently, Wood talked about his experience in these work in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.

Talking about coaching in Salford City

" Gary Neville said it was the best football he had ever seen in Salford, and Giggs also said that our training was good and he even wanted to participate. But football is always results-oriented, and I believe that if I continue to coach, everything will be fine.

"The first season was very successful, and the boss asked me to create a style of playing, to bring together the culture of the club, and to improve the players and the team, and that's exactly what I did. But we were eliminated by Stockport in the upgrade play-off semifinals. I hope to develop further on this second year, but some new players do not fit this style. ”

Talking about different work and feelings

"I really enjoy new challenges and new environments, I can experience different competitions, preparations, etc. My goal is to use the strengths of existing players as much as possible and work hard to improve their personal abilities and team performance.

"I had serious injuries and then turned to coaching when I was a player at Manchester United, and all of which gave me a lot of experience. I stopped playing in England because I no longer enjoyed football and my knee injury made it difficult for me to continue. When I turned to coaching, I always tried to implement something different from the traditional English style."

After returning to England, Wood coached the youth team at Villa for free, and then Manchester United sent him an invitation. Many of the kids who worked with him later became stars.

"I was in charge of the U14 echelon when I first came back, and Ilanga was still in the U13 team at the time, and Angel Gomez was there. Rashford was in the U16 team. I followed these players all the time, from 14 to 23 years old. Transferring to Newcastle was a good opportunity for Ilanga, and joining Real Madrid at A Fee was great for him and his family.

"When Amad first came, we didn't know much about him, but he was very valuable. Amad will train with the first team, but will be with the U23 team during the game. You can easily see Amad's talent during training. He is very quiet. He was still learning languages at that time, which was not easy.

"The teammates all like to play with Amad because he is smart, of course he just needs time. Amad performed well in Sunderland, and when he comes back you'll look forward to seeing him get a chance, and when the opportunity comes, Amad grabbed it."

Garnacho seems to be leaving the Red Devils

"Garnacho is talented, but some of his choices off the court may not help him. Maybe he's still a little immature, which is really regrettable. Some things can be avoided easily, such as through some education. Garnacho is not a bad boy or a bad guy, it's just that his choices don't help him. He needs to focus on football again and speak with his performance on the court."
