Durant s 37th birthday! Rockets will usher in the new season media day on September 29 local time

1:03pm, 7 August 2025Basketball

According to Rockets reporter Ben DuBose, the team will hold a new season media day on September 29 local time. This day happened to be Durant's 37th birthday. The

training camp is expected to start on the next day, September 30, and the first preseason game is scheduled to be held on October 6. The regular season opening game may be held as early as October 21, and the full schedule will be announced by the league office later this month (both local time in the United States).

Since Durant joined the Rockets in July and the NBA's labor-management agreement did not require players to be interviewed by the media during the offseason, the 15-time All-Star player has not met with a Houston reporter. Although it is still possible to hold a press conference in advance, no events have been arranged yet. NBA players usually travel or get together with family and friends a few weeks before training camp.

Rockets Dorian Finney Smith recently mentioned that the team will hold an informal mini camp in September, which may further tighten the schedule for this year. Media Days usually include interviews with key players, coaches and executives of each NBA team who will be asked about their opinions on the new season. Given that Durant's media day interview will undoubtedly involve his situation with the new team, he may choose to wait until then.

Previously, the Rockets had held several demonstrations in July when signing Dwight Howard (2013) and Chris Paul (2017), including press conferences and opportunities for players to interact with fans. It can be assumed that the team also hopes to use Durant's popularity to host similar events, but due to the players' personal arrangements, there are currently no clear signs that Durant will appear in Houston during the offseason.
