According to Daniel Blake, a reporter from the Jamaica Observer, the Jamaica Basketball Association is in preliminary negotiations with Scotty Barnes, Isaiah Stewart and Devin Vassel to recruit them to play for Jamaica.
The fathers of these three players are reportedly of Jamaican descent and they are eligible to play for Jamaica.
Jamaica Basketball Association President Bolton Gordon said he was optimistic that the three would seriously consider joining the team in the future, as the association strives to be a strong team in the FIBA competition and qualify for the Olympics for the first time.
Clippers player Norman Powell and Timberwolves player Josh Minnot have promised to represent Jamaica and will participate in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas qualifiers in August. The twin brothers Amen Thompson of the Houston Rockets and Osal Thompson of the Detroit Pistons have also expressed their willingness to represent Jamaica and have begun to handle matters related to obtaining Jamaica's passports.
