Jeddah national player Mahrez talked about Ronaldo's previous remarks in an interview.
Reporter: Ronaldo believes that the Saudi league is one of the top five leagues in the world. Do you agree with his point of view?
Mahrez: No, I think the top five European leagues are ahead. Then we started competing with other leagues and our goal was not to be the best league in the world right away. Focus on the future. Players who come to Saudi Arabia like me are at the beginning of this adventure, and we are a bit like pioneers.
We are helping them make this league stronger. Frankly speaking, in the two seasons I’ve been here, I’ve felt the improvements in the team, coaches, tactics and organization. They are working hard to achieve their goals, I believe they will succeed, they are working hard to be successful.
Previously, after renewing the contract until 2027, Ronaldo accepted an interview with Riyadh Victory. In the interview, Ronaldo said: Of course, Saudi Arabia is still developing, but I believe we are already one of the top five leagues in the world. I also believe that the Saudi Federation will continue to improve and we have enough time because we have proved to the world over the past two years that the level of this league has been improving. I'm very happy because I know that Saudi Arabia's competition is very fierce.
Only those who have never played football in Saudi Arabia, those who do not understand football, will say that Saudi United is not the top five leagues in the world. I believe 100% of what I say, and people who play in this league know what I'm talking about.
