Font criticizes Laporta: poor management style, sending away Inigo Martinez in vain

7:07pm, 14 October 2025Football

Victor Font, the former Barcelona presidential candidate, was interviewed and he criticized Laporta.

What are your prospects for the upcoming Barcelona presidential campaign?

We want a non-individualistic alternative. It's time to turn the page on this pattern: we've lived through 22 years of the Nunez era, and another 22 years of the Laporta, Sandro, Bartomeu and Laporta eras. It’s time for a new generation to modernize the club, create new dreams and protect our membership model.

A cross-factional candidate camp that represents all collective and Barça realities would be an exciting proposal for members to choose from. The sooner the option for this change becomes available for our members, the better. We are ready, when the election is called, to deliver a package that is 100% counter to the way the club is currently managed. I have no doubt that most members will be excited about this new project, seeing the club's decline on a social and economic level.

How do you evaluate Laporta's current club management?

We are moving further and further away from our members and putting tourists first, which is the result of a series of poor management, especially in the economic sector, because of its opacity and lack of transparency. This has had a direct impact on competitive results: we had to give away Inigo Martinez for nothing, we still cannot register players, the price of season tickets increased by 30% without notice, other sports departments have no budget...

What are your thoughts on the financial transparency of the club? Especially on the renovation project at Camp Nou?

Laporta has a perfect opportunity to answer this question at this Sunday's general membership meeting. We need an answer and transparency.

Cheating will not be tolerated. Regarding the settlement of the previous financial year (loss of 90 million euros), we asked for a restatement of the statements, but this was ignored. This year they hid a further €80m in losses, which were re-added to last year's accounts without being accounted for.

(Fonte also pointed out that the club) "gave 50 million euros to a friend on the grounds that he acted as an intermediary in the Nike contract."

After the team just experienced two consecutive losses, has your confidence in coach Flick been shaken?

I have no doubts about the German coach. Losing two games also happened to us last season. What I worry about is the perception that Flick might have when we talk about mismanagement, he must be stunned now, seeing his pre-season tour cancelled, not knowing where he will play, not knowing which players he can count on, seeing the club give away Inigo for nothing...
