Going down a tree? Spanish media: Barcelona will pay 62 million euros termination fee for Nico next week

The Daily Sports Daily reported that Barcelona will pay a termination fee for Nico next week, totaling 62 million euros.

After introducing Joan Garcia, Barcelona is about to finalize its second signing, and Nico will become Frick's second new player. The parties will sign a new six-year contract in the next few days.

Despite reaching an agreement with the players, Barcelona still attempts to negotiate with Bilbao through Nico himself. The club knew that his termination fee was €58 million plus IPC inflation adjustment clauses (total of about €62 million), but hoped to pay in installments. However, the Basque club flatly refused. The two clubs are tense, and Bilbao chairman Horn Uriat even said that he would strictly review every step of Barcelona's operations and financial fairness and compliance.

Therefore, Barcelona is ready to pay Nico's full amount and plans to complete it next week to settle the matter as soon as possible. Payments in July allow this expenditure to be included in the financial accounts for the 2025-26 season.

Barcelona's board of directors plans to use bank deposits to pay the fee. The club revealed to Daily Sports: "Barcelona does not have liquidity problems." The funds come from Nike's 150 million euro bonus sponsored by sponsorship and 58 million euros from the sales of VIP seats in January.

Barcelona admitted to being negotiated a credit loan (the amount is about 30 million euros, and interest is paid only on actual use), but emphasized that this has nothing to do with Nico's termination fee. The club explained that such credit is a regular means of large amounts of funds operating, insisting: "Barcelona's capital flows nearly 1 billion euros per season and is in good financial condition."
