RMC: Dembélé demands significant salary increase, PSG does not want to repeat the mistakes of the past

RMC Sports reported that after winning the Ballon d'Or, Dembele asked for a significant salary increase, but Paris does not want to repeat the mistakes of the past.

After winning the Ballon d'Or, Dembele's influence has entered a new dimension, which has also prompted his team to put forward new demands for salary. RMC Sports stated that although the current contract expires in 2028, Dembele has requested a significant salary increase from Paris.

The question now is where PSG will stand when it comes to renegotiating the terms of its contract. Before the identity of the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner was announced, Paris consultant Luis Campos had a very firm attitude on the matter. He insists PSG's new wage policy applies to everyone, even if Dembélé wins the top individual honour.

He emphasized at the time: "The stability of the club will not change because of a player who wants to be special. We will protect Paris Saint-Germain. We always want to play well and win. With this policy, everyone understands that the coach will not arrange positions based on the status or past qualifications of the players. Your past will not make you the main force at Paris Saint-Germain. This is our policy, and it works very well. You have to prove that you are the best every day, every game."

"The club's policy is to build a team. The club is more important than anyone else. Paris Saint-Germain has changed. Our policy is closely linked to performance. When you deserve it, you can get more. The club and the entire team are the stars. This is the model we established after reaching a consensus with the management."

The proof that Paris Saint-Germain does not want to repeat the same mistakes is that the management did not provide special treatment to Donnarumma, even though he was one of the important contributors to the Champions League win. The Italian goalkeeper failed to reach an agreement with the club, who pointed out issues with his salary demands, and was pushed to leave as he no longer complied with club policy.

Campos once said: "The club is more important than anyone else, and this has changed at Paris Saint-Germain. In Donnarumma's case, a combination of factors led to this decision. He asked for a salary at the past Paris Saint-Germain level, not today's Paris Saint-Germain salary."
