German winger Sane joined Turkish Super League team Galatasaray as a free agent this summer. In a recent interview with "Sky Sports Germany", Sane talked about the situation after joining, his goals in the new team and when his career may end.
- Transfer to Galatasaray:
Sane: "I'm very happy to be here. I'm really looking forward to being on the pitch with my teammates and playing in front of these incredible fans. The fans have welcomed me so well and made it so easy for me. When you arrive in Istanbul and see the fans standing there lighting up the fireworks, it's very special. I'm very happy for that and very grateful."
- The difference on a competitive level between playing in Germany:
Sane: "Of course I had to adapt first. I had an adaptation phase, so not everything went as I wanted on the pitch at the beginning. I had to get to know my teammates, and they had to get to know me - how to get along on the pitch, how to work together. It took a little time. But now, in recent games, I'm very happy with my performance and the way I play. I'm going to carry this momentum forward now and keep it going."
- What he misses about his time at Bayern:
Sane: "Of course I will miss the time on the pitch with my teammates - that's always special. It's the same at Manchester City, it's the same at Schalke, it's the same everywhere: when you leave a team and you were able to play with those teammates. But I'm here to create new memories and gain new experiences. I'm now fully focused on Galatasaray and looking forward to everything that happens in the future."
- Media attention in Turkey:
Sane: "The fans in the Turkish Super League here are also very passionate and fanatical - this is part of football. Football is like this, you can't just pick the good parts. I am very calm and regard all this as part of my world. I try to focus on myself, play well and help the team - this is the only thing I focus on."
- Turkish Super League:
Sane: "One thing that surprised me very positively is that the games here are very confrontational. This league is very tough, direct, fast-paced, and many teams focus on counterattacks. Everyone works hard to create opportunities - the game is not as imagined by the outside world. So easy. The quality here is definitely not as low as some people say. I still need to know more about this league and I haven't played with all the teams yet, but it's been a good challenge and I'm looking forward to the next games."
- Criticism of fans after Frankfurt's defeat:
Sane: "The fans are of course very emotional. When you play well, you get incredible cheers, and when you lose, it can also be 'explosive.' It's understandable that there will be criticism when you lose 1-5 in the Champions League. The fans have the right to criticize us."
- The atmosphere of the game in Istanbul:
Sane: "I used to play here with Bayern - the atmosphere was already crazy. But now in the league, every game is special. This atmosphere can give you a huge push. The game against Liverpool was certainly more extreme. You don't experience games like this very often, and I am grateful to be able to enjoy this experience at almost every home court. I want to do my best on the field and give back to the fans, because they really create an incredible atmosphere."
- Galatasaray's chances of winning the Champions League:
Sane: "We have a very good team. Of course, there will be a lot of pressure from the fans, but for me the first goal is to get to the knockout rounds. We'll see later. You also hope for a bit of luck in the draw "But I think we showed how good we can be - especially in front of the home fans, for example. But like I said: the first goal is to get to the knockout stages." Possible end of career:
Sane: "I just see how long I can play. I don't have a set age and say it's over at that year. It depends on how my body feels, my form, and whether I can still play at the highest level. If I feel like I can't reach the highest level anymore and have to step down a gear a little bit, then that's it. But as long as I enjoy playing football and my body allows it, I'll keep playing as long as possible."
- Dreams and goals for the rest of his career:
Sane: "If I can play in the World Cup, of course it's a dream - to win the World Cup, that's the biggest goal. Apart from that, I just want to win as many trophies as possible - also at Galatasaray - and then see where it goes in the future."
