In the 8th round of Serie A, Roma defeated Sassuolo 1-0 away from home. After the game, Roma coach Gasperini accepted an interview with DAZN.
What is your evaluation of this victory?
I am very satisfied with the team’s ranking in the standings and with their performance in today’s game. They played well and bounced back well after losing two games in a row.
Have you ever doubted the abilities of Roma players before? Why is Cristante playing as an attacking midfielder in this game?
I never doubted it, it was others who did. Dybala is an extraordinary player and we have no problems. Cristante used to play as an attacking midfielder when he played for Atalanta where I coached. He has grown a lot over the years. Today we needed to allow the forwards to open up space and use the midfielders to get in and attack.
You replaced Dybala and Leon Bailey in the second half.
Dybala missed several games before, and Bailey started for Roma for the first time today. Too much playing time is not good for players.
Roma has won all away games this season, but has lost 4 games at home.
The next highest priority is to return to home and win. Losing multiple games in a short period of time isn't great, but not all losing games are bad. We shouldn't have lost the Europa League game in the middle of the week. We will play at home again next Wednesday and we have to be careful and we need to be more efficient.
