On the 15th of last month, former Inter Milan and Bayern defenders, Lucio, 47, suffered burns due to an accident caused by a fireplace explosion. Lucio was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday local time and was interviewed by Global Sports. The accident occurred at a dinner party at Lucio’s friend’s house on May 15, when the fireplace was extinguished and a man tried to reignite the fireplace by pouring alcohol. At this time, the situation was out of control.

Lucio recalled the accident: "It happened so quickly that there was no time to react. I heard the explosion, and the flames rushed towards me as I turned around. It was only a few seconds, and unfortunately the flames burned my face, hair and body. My arms and legs were the most burned, and it was a very dramatic and painful moment. I will never forget this moment. The doctor said that the situation might have been worse."

At that time, Lucio's wife Maria took action quickly and called Lucio to jump into the pool. Doctors said the move played a decisive role in reducing the degree of burns. The doctor said that Lucio's burns reached about one-fifth of his body, and treatments included surgery, physical therapy, hyperbaric chamber treatment, etc. The doctor said: Lucio still has some wounds that have not fully healed, so it is necessary to avoid exposure to the sun and continue physical therapy.
