White talked about being traded: At that time, all I was thinking about was why they didn t want me anymore

Recently, Celtics player Derek White talked about his mood when he was traded on a podcast.

White said: "Being traded in the middle of the season was one of the craziest things I've ever experienced in my NBA career. You played for a team, you're all in their hearts and all your might to help them win. Then one day, they said to you, 'Okay, you're going to the Celtics now'. So... I was hurt at the time. Really, when they traded me, it felt like... I remember Jacob Pelter came to my room after I was traded. I was thinking, 'Why don't they want me?'

"That feeling is, why don't they trust me? Why don't I have a place in their future? All my mind was thinking, ‘Why do they want me anymore? ’I have no objection to the team’s reconstruction…

"But it’s obvious that being traded is too crazy. My wife was seven months pregnant at the time, which made everything even more crazy. And I think being traded to the Celtics made things even more crazy - the road there is simply inexplicable. You don’t know where you are going. Everything is dizzy."

In 2022, White was traded to the Celtics by the Spurs in exchange for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, a 2022 first-round draft pick (that draft pick eventually picked Blake Wesley) and the 2028 first-round draft pick swap.
